Non-comformity is the failure to to accepted standards, conventions, rules, or laws. The quote means that it's okay to stand out, you don't have to do what everyone else does.
I like this quote because if you could be self reliant, you don't have to depend on others to do things for you or stand up for you. Many people depend on others, but when it comes down to it your the only person who can change your life. When you are independent you are more likely to succeed because you expect to do good for yourself and not have the expectancy of others.

By standing out, you make yourself different. But are you willing to make yourself different in the eyes of the people around you? Being different can have great rewards but can have great failures. To be willing to reject the standards or rules of the common people can lead to rejection.

Never under estimate yourself for what the people think because you are your own being and we are all unique in our own special way so I agree with your quote because it is always better to be different from the others and be what you want to be.
